Art Contest: Penny Press Machine
monca is the proud owner of a new souvenir penny press thanks to the generous donation of David and Shari Hopper.
We are seeking designs by local artists to press into pennies using this new machine. There will be four designs available to press into souvenir pennies for museum visitors to take home.
Each penny will include monca’s logo on the back as well as a thin dotted border on each side. One design will feature a custom depiction of the Bidwell Mansion. We are seeking three additional designs that represent the Butte County area.
Submit one original, black and white artwork for a chance to win. Winning artists will be awarded a prize of $250 for their contribution.
Art must consist of clear and crisp linework to accommodate the penny flattening process. Submit oval-shaped artwork. Flattened pennies will be approximately 1.25” long and .75” wide.
Submit your design for free via Google Form by Friday, May 30 2025 at 5PM.
If you cannot submit your work via Google Form for any reason, please hand-deliver or mail your piece to monca.
monca will contact winners to arrange artwork drop-off to monca by hand-delivery or mail. Winners will be announced via social media and our newsletter two weeks after the submission window closes.
Eligibility:
Original works created by artists residing in Northern California, defined as San Jose and all points north, east, and west to the state border. If you have eligibility questions please email submissions@monca.org
Jurying:
The museum’s board will make the final selections for the designs.
