Exhibit Statement
Sponsored by the Disability Action Center and Museum of Northern California Art, Through Another Lens features the creative works of our community members with disabilities and brings education and awareness about disability advocacy and independent living to the museum gallery. The exhibition highlights artist works through a healing Totem Project from the Brain Injury Coalition guided by teaching artist Christine MacShane. The exhibit includes individual and collaborative artwork from artists of all age groups and organizations.

Brain Injury Coalition
The Brain Injury Coalition is an advocacy and educational organization dedicated to promoting brain injury awareness and creating opportunities for individuals with brain injury, their caregivers, and families.
Christine MacShane Art
I began teaching acrylics in my late 30s. I was hooked! Teaching gave me the opportunity to help others to “see” and to open up to a part of them that was dormant. I have always been drawn to understanding how art benefits the artist and the viewer and have seen enormous healing and joy in adversity when art is part of the recovery process. Throughout my art instruction career I have seen calm restored and communities mended, friendships made and hearts made whole through the creation of art. I currently
work with the Traumatic Brain Injury Coalition and The Little Red Hen programs. As long as I can hold a brush, you will find me in front of a canvas!
Stonebridge Counseling Chico
At Stonebridge Counseling, we believe everyone deserves a dedicated path to
mental wellness. We provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy to
individuals and families throughout California. Our clinicians are
dedicated to supporting a clients journey toward resilience and long-term emotional
health.
Valerie Tafolla Rose
Hard of hearing and culturally Deaf, Tafolla Rose's primary language is American Sign Language (ASL). She is a visual artist and ASL teacher. Rose's work often celebrates Deaf culture while also including themes of visual communication, ASL access and education.
WTC
The mission of the WTC is to assist and support people with disabilities to enhance the quality of their lives through increased independence in work and leisure activities.

The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) is dedicated to instilling art into the lives of all visitors.
