Puppet Show

Did someone say avant garde puppet show?

Join us at monca on August 15, 2025 from 7-9PM for a one-of-a-kind puppet show produced by master puppeteer liz HOWLS and musician and artist Drew Simpson. The show consists of three acts: Lonesome Whistle, Cautionary Tale, and Vol 1.

The evening will begin with two short pieces told with the traditional storytelling devices of crankie, a pre-film moving picture, and contestoria, a singing picture story. The final act “explores the exponential pace of overwhelming absurdity in our world. Found objects, large scale puppets and sputtering lights bring you face to face with the cuddly nightmare that is everyday life.”

The acclaimed performance contains virtually every style of puppetry and will leave you wanting more. The performers will be available for a show-and-tell after the show.

liz was the Assistant Director for the iconic Guillermo del Toro’s Academy Award-winning Pinocchio and has a background rich in puppet design, animation, illustration, and beyond. Drew is a prolific lighting designer and musician with experience in nearly everything peculiar. Liz and Drew are co-founders of Happy Accident, an absurdist performance art group.
