The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) is thrilled to present “Avian Art,” an exhibition dedicated to celebrating the splendor of birds in art. Coinciding with the esteemed 2024 Snow Goose Festival, this exhibit runs from January 25th to March 3rd, 2024, and features a vibrant selection of bird-themed works across various media.
This year, we are proud to share that “Avian Art” has received a record number of submissions, showcasing the widespread interest and creativity in our community. The selection process was a challenging but rewarding experience for our jury, given the impressive quality and diversity of the artworks submitted. This exhibition is a testament to the artistic community’s fascination and reverence for our feathered friends.
It’s a celebration of the intersection between art and nature. Visitors can expect to be mesmerized by the myriad interpretations of avian beauty, from the delicate and detailed to the abstract and avant-garde. This exhibition promises to showcase not just the aesthetic beauty of birds but also their symbolic significance in various cultures and artistic expressions.
The exhibit aligns perfectly with the Snow Goose Festival of the Pacific Flyway, an event that honors the extraordinary migratory journey of millions of birds along the Pacific Flyway. This festival, a highlight in the Northern Sacramento Valley, brings attention to the spectacular wildlife, particularly the majestic Snow Goose, which winters in large numbers in our region. The festival’s mission to raise awareness and promote conservation of these incredible creatures and their habitats resonates deeply with the themes explored in “Avian Art.”
We invite you to immerse yourself in this unique blend of art and natural wonder at monca. “Avian Art” is not just an exhibition; it’s a journey through the artistic lens into the world of these remarkable creatures that grace our skies. Come and witness the beauty, diversity, and artistic interpretation of our avian companions in an exhibition that promises to captivate and inspire.
