Join us for an in-person community listening party for the online release of WAILS: Songs for Grief on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 4-6:30 PM PST. We will listen to the recording all the way through without stopping.
WAILS is a cycle of songs written by ahlay Blakely, inspired by whales and Francis Weller’s “five gates of grieving.” The recording of a choir of nearly 200 voices, mixed with whalesong, strings, horns and ahlay’s solo voice (which will be released on Bandcamp on 09/24/24) is intended to comfort and encourage communities experiencing loss, and to inspire them to establish community spaces and practices which foster communal gatherings that celebrate community through singing and grieving together.
Admission by donation (suggested $5-$20) to benefit monca and the artist, Alexandra ‘ahlay’ Blakely.
