Opening Reception for Promises: Sculpture by Matt Auvinen

monca is thrilled to welcome this enthralling exhibition of marble sculpture by Matt Auvinen beginning September 5.
“Time and perspective condition the way we understand the things that humans produce,” says sculptor Matt Auvinen. “It is enriching to be able to connect with the past through the creation of artworks.”
“While traveling through Europe on my personal ‘Grand Tour,’ I was fascinated by the work of the Greek, Renaissance and Baroque masters,” Matt says. “Michelangelo and Bernini were able to transform hard marble into something carnal and plastic.”
“Promises” by Matt Auvinen will be running alongside Chikoko’s exhibition, “Proprioception”, from September 5 through October 27.
The opening reception for both exhibitions will be held Friday, September 6, from 6-8pm. The reception is FREE and features a no-host bar.
